Sigma Kappa provides valuable leadership development opportunities to its members. As an organization Sigma Kappa encourages our members to be involved in at least one extracurricular activity during their collegiate experience. Because of this focus on involvement outside of Sigma Kappa, our sisters are able to engage with the campus and community in ways that are important to them.
The Theta Psi Chapter holds many events every semester. One of our main events is our Ultra Violet flag football tournament. This tournament raises money for the Sigma Kappa foundation by inviting other members of the Greek community here at Penn State to participate in a Flag Football tournament with food, games, and fun! This tournament is one of our biggest fundraising efforts and its purpose is to raise money and awareness for Sigma Kappa’s other national philanthropy.
Another big event that we participate in is State College’s annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Last year, Sigma Kappa led the fundraising efforts at the State College Walk, raising close to $10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. We hold this event very close to our hearts, many of our members have family members or someone close to their heart’s affected by Alzheimer’s.
Every November 9th, the Theta Psi chapter celebrates Founder’s Day. The entire chapter attends a meeting where we learn more about the history and founders of our sorority. Founder’s Day is always such a fun time where we are able to bond with our sisters, participate in games, and have raffles where our members are able to win basket prizes. During our last Founder’s Day we were able to make goodie bags filled with candy and we learned that Connie Britton (from Friday Night Lights and more) is a Sigma Kappa!
